April 5 – Worthy

When you can’t have everything, it’s good to ask yourself what is worthy of having. When you don’t have enough time to do everything, it’s good to ask yourself what is worthy of your time. Right? When my kids were little, I learned to make decisions differently about the things I chose to do. I began asking myself what is the best thing I can do right now.
When the babies are asleep, what is the best thing for me to do? What is worthy of my time? Do I need sleep? If so, go for it. If not, then obviously the answer is to read a book.
I know, I know, there are other important things. Like, the kitchen probably needs cleaning and laundry needs done – but, you know what? You can do that when the baby is awake. You really can.
For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. So says the author of Ecclesiastes. The thing I realized back then was that it was all a matter of timing. What do you need at any given time? What can you appreciate at any given time? What will you benefit from, use well, at any given time?
There are two factors: the moment and the decision. Choose what is the right thing for the time that you are in. And there you have worth.
